Over 1,300 Aikido practitioners took part in the seminar including 600 from abroad. Under the overcrowded condition, Doshufs instruction was detailed and carried out as if addressing each participant. He is really a samurai responsible for passing down Aikido, the position of which has been succeeded by the inheritance from the Founder to the former Doshu and then to the current Doshu.

worldwide Aikido
Tanabe City Gymnastics Center, the place of the seminar given by Doshu Moriteru Ueshiba, was jam-packed with Aikido practitioners on the final day (12 October) of the 10th IAF Congress. This is because aikido practitioners in nearby area in Kinki region including Wakayama prefecture attended not to miss an outstanding opportunity to take the training lesson by Doshu, who had come over from Tokyo. This reveals the underlying clout of the Aikikai, Aikido headquarters. Undaunted by such a large audience, Doshu Moriteru carried out his seminar in front of a big portrait of his grandfather, Founder Morihei Ueshiba.

gIfll do my utmost to conduct the seminar with so many practitioners gathered here today. Do learn and acquire the training procedure and bring it back to your dojo for practicing repeatedly,h said Doshu. First, he demonstrated shihonage, Aikidofs four-direction movements, employing omote waza (technique) with irimi movement towards the opponent sides and ura waza incorporating a turning or pivoting motion towards the rear. He strived to teach every waza incorporating four directions. gI always focus on teaching basics,h he said and started with shomen-uchi iriminage showing exquisite performances of irimi and tenkan with the body movement.

Iriminage is defined as the technique employed where guiding the attacker in such a way to control effectively his or her balance and then to execute the throw. At the moment, all participants seemed struggling to practice each other in a very small space, but they performed very skillfully. Their attempts proved to be successful in other features. Pairs, overcoming language barriers, made strenuous efforts to practice following the procedures given by Doshu while helping each other over the small space. It was the moment when Aikidofs expanding potential was confirmed.
